Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy
Few places are more of an academic paradise than Italy. Incredible art, history, and culture set against a backdrop of gorgeous land and seascapes, amazing food, and friendly people. As a student in the Joseph S. Bruno Italy program, your assignment is simple: Experience it all.
Backpacking Across Europe
This study abroad program offers students the opportunity to experience the European tourism/hospitality industry first-hand, and to evaluate and experience emerging issues within the European tourism marketplace. This course endeavors to combine the application of theory with internationalization in a prolonged field trip off campus.
Child Life Program in Ecuador
Through this study abroad program, undergraduate students will participate in a one-week practicum in Ecuador. You'll work directly with local healthcare providers, delivering care to both adults and children in community clinics, normalizing the healthcare environment. Beyond the clinic, you'll explore the rich culture and stunning sights of Ecuador.
Exploring Tourism and Mediterranean Culture in Jordan
This study abroad program will provide students the opportunity to travel to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Students will learn about the cultural, political, social, and economic diversity of this country (as well as the broader Middle East region) and experience the history, customs, and hospitality of the Jordanian people.
Global Perspectives on Human Sciences: Freshman UK Tour
This study abroad program will allow students completing their freshman year to explore the worlds of hospitality and nutrition, consumer and design sciences, human development, and global studies through hands-on engagement with professionals in their field of study, and the opportunity to experience what each industry looks like in a global context.
HDFS Directed Study in Italy
Students on the HDFS Directed Study program will live alongside participants of the Joseph S. Bruno Program in Ariccia, Italy. Students will complete 13 weeks in country, including a week of orientation and Italian language training, and 12 weeks in an internship experience with a local organization in Ariccia. Internship placement options include schools, library, community organizations, non-profits, health clinic, and more.
HDFS Directed Study in Spain
Through this experience, the students can learn/improve their Spanish while gaining experience in their chosen fields in HDFS. By partnering with Colegio Alauda in Córdoba, Spain, students will live and work in a structured environment that allows the student to immerse themselves in the language and culture of Spain while contributing to the education of a new generation.
Health, Human Development, and Family Science in Spain
This short-term study abroad course offers students an immersive opportunity to explore how health and wellness are understood, promoted, and delivered in a global context—specifically within European Countries. Students will engage in site visits, guided discussions, and cultural activities that examine the intersections of public health, family systems, child development, and social policy.
Hospitality Directed Study in Ireland
This program provides students with an opportunity to study topic in hospitality and tourism while abroad. Students will take courses relevant to their major at the Technological University of Dublin, returning home with awareness of how one’s own area of study functions in the context of a globalized society.
Live Events in Australia & New Zealand
Join Dr. Alecia Douglas and fellow Auburn students to explore the live entertainment industry for Auckland, New Zealand, and Sydney & Brisbane, Australia. This 18-day program offers students the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and gain hands-on experience in spectator sports, live festivals, and live performing arts while earning 4 credit hours in HOSP-5380/HOSP-6380.
London Fashion Industry Tour
This faculty-led study abroad course offers students an immersive experience in the global fashion industry through the lens of London, one of the world’s premier fashion capitals. Through visits to fashion houses, museums, retailers, and cultural landmarks—including fashion walking tours and a curator-led tour of the Victoria & Albert Museum—students will explore the UK’s fashion, textile, and cultural heritage.
Mediterranean Diet Tour in Italy and Greece
Students will learn about the health benefits associated with consumption of the Mediterranean Diet and be provided an opportunity to participate in a field-based learning experience on the Mediterranean Diet in Italy and Greece. Students will explore the unique nutritional aspects of common chronic disease, and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences integrating the nutrition science of the Mediterranean eating patterns with an enjoyable international food and beverage experience.
Pre-Health Shadowing in Viana do Castelo, Portugal
Students will earn 40 shadowing hours during their time learning about healthcare in Portugal as well as 2 credits for NTRI 5380: Study and Travel in Nutritional Sciences. Course credit applies to Spring semester, and travel takes place May 8-May 22, 2026. Students must have a Pre-Health focus (Pre-Medical, Pre-Physician Assistant, and Pre-Anesthesiology Assistant are preferred).
Social Impact of Design and Philanthropy in Berlin, Germany
The Design for Social Impact study abroad program highlights interdisciplinary connections between nonprofit studies, interior design, and global studies. These intersections will naturally emerge as students will meet with local philanthropic agencies and nonprofits, revealing not only how interior design choices can facilitate but also how, in some cases, they hinder the social mission of nonprofit organizations.
Southeast Asia Bites & Sights: Exploring Food & Tourism in Malaysia and Thailand
This immersive 10-day program offers participants a unique opportunity to explore the rich culinary, hospitality, and tourism landscapes of Malaysia and Thailand by engaging in culinary workshops and hands-on cooking experiences, visiting local markets etc. With a perfect balance of academic learning, professional networking, and cultural immersion, this program provides students with a deeper understanding of the culinary and tourism industries in two of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant destinations.
Sustainability in Action in Vorovoro, Fiji
During this program on the 300-acre Vorovoro Island, students will participate in day-to-day village life alongside Mali villagers, allowing them a first-hand look into authentic island life, cuisine, and culture. Students will have the opportunity to engage with local Fijians in a collaborative community project and gain first-hand knowledge to compare and contrast the wealth of tourists versus the life of an average Fijian.
