Short Bio

Peter Weber is an Associate Professor of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies and Program Coordinator of the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (PNPS) Program at Auburn University. He holds a Ph.D. in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, as well as master's degrees in History and in International Studies in Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship from the University of Bologna in Italy. Dr. Weber’s research employs historical and qualitative methods to examine the factors that shape an organization’s ability to implement its mission effectively and efficiently. His work pays particular attention to how organizations and their leaders can manage and leverage these factors to strengthen performance and impact. He has published extensively in peer‑reviewed journals, including Voluntas, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, and Nonprofit Management and Leadership. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, Murray State University, and Auburn University. His teaching interests include grant‑making practices, nonprofit management and governance, nonprofit advocacy and public policy, and community engagement. In recognition of his contributions to the field, Dr. Weber received the 2013 ARNOVA Emerging Scholar Award and was selected as a 2015 Future Philanthropic Educator Fellow by the Learning by Giving Foundation. He currently serves as President of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council (NACC), an international membership association of nonprofit and philanthropic research centers and academic programs. He also serves on the editorial boards of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), Nonprofit Management and Leadership (NML), Philanthropia, and the Journal of Nonprofit Education and Leadership (JNEL).
