Short Bio

Kara received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Harding University and a Masters in Human Development and Family Science from Auburn University. She also earned a PhD in Public Policy and Public Administration from Auburn University. During her career, Kara has worked in the nonprofit sector as well as with the Ohio State University Extension Service in the area of family and child development. Kara first joined the Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn University in 2014, teaching in the hunger minor and eventually becoming the Operations Manager. She is glad to be back at HSI after leaving for a few years to work on her PhD. Today, Kara is an Outreach Program Manager for the SNAP outreach incentive programs for HSI. In this position she oversees and coordinates the GusNIP project, or Double Up Food Bucks Alabama, as well as the Add Milk pilot program. She considers it an honor to work on projects that are helping people who are struggling feed their families in healthy and nutritious ways. When she's not immersed in her academic and professional pursuits, Kara enjoys spending time with her family, working on her goodreads stats, and making pottery. You can usually find her with her own dogs or petting other people’s dogs. Favorite Auburn tradition - Aubie! He is so loving. Unpopular opinion – Dogs should be allowed to come to work. Favorite quote - “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” -Oscar Wilde
