Short Bio
Now in his twelfth year, Dr. Imran Rahman is an associate professor at the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama. He was endowed with the prestigious Mike & Leann Rowe Endowed Professorship in International Studies in 2018. Dr. Rahman has been featured among Stanford University and Elsevier’s World’s Top 2% Scientists in the last three years. Dr. Rahman’s primary research interests focus on consumer behavior in hospitality and tourism, with a particular emphasis on sustainability, wine, and special interest tourism. Furthermore, Dr. Rahman actively works on research involving sustainable hospitality business practices and operations. Dr. Rahman has authored over 60 high-impact research papers in leading hospitality, tourism, and sustainability journals, including The Journal of Cleaner Production, International Journal of Hospitality Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Sustainable Development, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research. Dr. Rahman’s research has been presented over 90 times in prestigious international, national, and regional conferences. Additionally, he has served as the conference chair in the Southeast CHRIE conference twice. He also co-authored a major textbook, "Introduction to Hospitality Management," with John Wiley and Sons. Dr. Rahman has won numerous awards in conferences such as ICHRIE, SECSA-CHRIE, and ICHRIE case study competitions. Professor Rahman has taught the sophomore-level core course Lodging Operations for over 14 years at Auburn and Washington State University. Additionally, he has taught a myriad of other important courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Some of his popular courses at Auburn University include Hospitality Law, Global Study Travel in Human Sciences, Advanced Tourism Analysis, Consumer Behavior in Hospitality and Tourism, Sustainability and the Modern World, and Club Management. Finally, Dr. Rahman has mentored over 32 graduate students – many of whom are now assistant professors at prestigious institutions, including Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of South Florida, Southern Utah University, and Illinois State University. An ardent traveler, Dr. Rahman has led several study abroad trips from Auburn University, including a month-long backpacking expedition across Europe and a one-of-a-kind trip focusing on authentic island life, cuisine, and culture on a remote island in Northern Fiji.
