Interior Design Professional Fee

An Investment in Your Education and Experience

Tuition and required fees represent an important investment in your future. Like many professional programs at Auburn University, Interior Design requires additional resources beyond standard tuition to deliver the high‑quality, hands‑on learning experience students expect.
The Interior Design (INDX/INDS) program includes a professional program fee that directly supports student learning. This fee helps ensure access to specialized facilities, technology, instructional support, and accreditation standards essential to professional practice.

Our Commitment

The Interior Design professional fee reflects our commitment to providing a rigorous, supportive, and professionally aligned learning environment—one that prepares you for success in practice, licensure, and leadership in the design profession. Programs of this caliber require:

  • More studio space per student
  • Smaller student‑to‑faculty ratios
  • Advanced technology and specialized software
  • Dedicated technical, instructional, and administrative support
  • Ongoing costs associated with maintaining professional accreditation

To remain competitive with other top‑ranked programs nationwide and to expand student support services, Auburn University approved a professional fee for Interior Design, implemented in Fall 2017.

How the Professional Fee Benefits You

Program fees are a tuition supplement that goes directly back into the Interior Design program. These funds enhance your educational experience in tangible ways, including:

  • Facilities & Studios: Four dedicated design studios, a Mac computer lab, resource room, in‑studio printers, and plotters
  • Educational Enhancements: Field trips, professional workshops, guest speakers, and support for professional certification preparation
  • Technology & Resources: Student supplies, studio equipment, and access to specialized design software and emerging technologies
  • Instructional & Technical Support: Faculty support, graduate assistants, and dedicated IT assistance
  • Accreditation & Professional Standards: Support for CIDA accreditation requirements, including annual fees and site visits

In many courses, these resources reduce out‑of‑pocket expenses by providing materials, equipment, or software that students would otherwise need to purchase independently.

Additional Notes

The professional fee is not covered by university‑level scholarships.
Similar professional fees are standard across other highly technical programs at Auburn, including Architecture, Engineering, Business, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, and Pharmacy.
