MEDITERRANEAN DIET

A gratifying food and beverage experience in Italy

Students will learn about the health benefits associated with consumption of the Mediterranean Diet and be provided an opportunity to participate in a field-based learning experience on the Mediterranean Diet in Italy and Greece. Students will explore the unique nutritional aspects of common chronic disease, and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences integrating the nutrition science of the Mediterranean eating patterns with an enjoyable international food and beverage experience. The program includes wine and cheese tastings, exploration of olive oil production, visits to traditional food markets and shopping, culinary classes, and regional farms. The course is a collaborative effort between Auburn University and the Gustolab Institute in Rome, Italy.

Students will travel & live independently and must possess the ability to walk 5 miles per day. Be prepared for extensive walking, limited A/C, use of public Transportation (taxi/bus/metro/train), stairs, train transportation, and uneven walkways.

To participate, undergraduate students must be registered for NTRI 5380 (4 credits) and graduate students must be registered for NTRI 6380 (4 credits).
