College of Human Sciences Explores Tourism and Mediterranean Culture in Jordan

Gain a culturally rich experience by traveling to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Students will learn about the cultural, political, social and economic diversity of Jordan and the broader Middle East region and also experience the history, customs and hospitality of the Jordanian people. This first-hand experience will facilitate understanding of the global marketplace. Excursions include visiting Jordan’s archaeological, historical, and natural wonders. Through several volunteer experiences, participants in this program will demonstrate the ability to appreciate and interact constructively with people from drastically different cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, and the subsequent recognition of one self in cultural context in relation to others.

COURSES

Participants in this program will enroll in 6 credit hours of HUSC 5940/6940 Study and Travel in Human Sciences. One credit hour will be allocated to all pre-departure meetings during the spring semester 2016. Jordan Applied University College of Hospitality and Tourism Education (JAU), will be offering a culture-related course to the participants in this program in Jordan, taught in English by a JAU faculty. Total proposed course contact hours for this program are 90 hours, covering the pre-departure meetings; JAU culture-related class, and educational visits and excursions.
