Summary
Portia Johnson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist with a joint appointment with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences at Auburn University. As the Financial Management & Workforce Develop Extension Specialist, her extension programming includes adult and youth financial literacy, household money management, career preparedness and soft skills workforce development, household disaster preparedness, and financial aid decision-making. Johnson’s research agenda includes sustainable homeownership and heirs’ property, household financial literacy and housing education, coaching, and counseling. Johnson has authored and co-authored several academic and extension publications and regularly delivers presentations at invited professional meetings. She has received over 21 honors and awards, among them a 2021 National Sadie Alexander Scholar Recipient, The Sadie Collective and National Blue Key Honor Society 2021 inductee. She has also received various external funds to support her work (e.g., Alabama Association of Resource Conservation & Development).
