JORDAN

Overview

This study abroad program will provide students the opportunity to travel to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Students will learn about the cultural, political, social, and economic diversity of this country (as well as the broader Middle East region) and experience the history, customs, and hospitality of the Jordanian people. The instructional format of this program is unique in that students are provided both a traditional classroom-like experience at Jordan Applied University College of Hospitality and Tourism Education (JAU), along with first-hand exposure to the Jordanian and Middle Eastern cultures. This first- hand experience will facilitate an understanding of the global marketplace.

Students will participate in excursions to Jordan’s archaeological, historical, and natural wonders. Students may also participate in additional volunteer opportunities (including helping Jordanian students with their English language skills). Throughout this program, students will demonstrate the ability to appreciate and interact constructively with people from drastically different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and the subsequent recognition of one’s self and cultural context in relation to others.
