I found this internship site through a counseling class I took in the spring semester when looking for volunteer hours. I fell in love with Baby Steps, their mission, and their team. Baby Steps is a non profit with the goal of empowering college students to have their education and their babies by providing housing, support, and community. My personal role over the summer will include overseeing graphic design for social media, advertising, blogging, and gathering potential contacts to be featured on our blog. This is important for my HDFS degree because it gives me the opportunity to work with college aged students directly as well as outreaching to the community to implement the education I learned in the classroom setting during my time at auburn. Since these are mothers of young children, Auburn has given me the knowledge that goes along with each stage of development-including infancy, but especially adolescence, as most of this mothers are in their late adolescence.
