Short Bio
Professor Taneshia West Albert, MFA, EDAC, NCIDQ, ASID, USGBC is an enthusiastic, award-winning educator and design practitioner. Her research and creative scholarship explores: cultural identity, meaning and trauma; diversity and inclusion; and methods to increase intercultural competency in design education and practice. Her design career is focused on design for healthcare environments, corporate interiors, and higher education spaces with a unique background in Medical Equipment Planning and Facilities Design and Construction. Her community service- both in and outside of the university in which she is employed- focuses on issues of inclusion, diversity, and equity within design education and the design profession of historically underrepresented group, specifically those: from marginalized ethnic groups; who are uniquely physical and cognitively abled; and who are lower socioeconomic groups. Her recent industry and academic merit awards include: 2025 ASID 50 Awards (American Society of Interior Designers [ASID]); Emerging Alumni Award, 2024 (Department of Interior Architecture & Design, Florida State University); Educator of the Year, 2023 (American Society of Interior Designers [ASID]); and ASID One’s to Watch Award & Scholar (American Society of Interior Designers [ASID]).

Position Summary: Responsible for leading a design team comprised of three department areas. Leads team through all phases of the design process. Responsible for hiring, training, assigning work, and employee evaluations. Major lesion between management and various departments to achieve a single company vision. Voting company board member.
Ochsner Health System January 2012 to April 2014; Equipment Planner/Interior Designer-Full Time Employee, New Orleans, LA
Position Summary: Provide interior planning, design, and furnishing for various departments within the Ochsner Health System. Served as an adviser for new construction, renovations, and leased spaces. Led project planning and budgeting for FF&E, installation, medical equipment and move management. Served as contracting requester/representative for design services and medical equipment procurement. Applied building regulations, codes, principles of evidence-based design and best practices to each design for a successful and unique design solution. Acted as the authority and decision maker for design choices, physical solutions, equipment purchases, and project planning decisions. CAP Change Agent. Managed and directed contractors and co-workers from project planning to post occupancy evaluation. Developed the design for one of only two hospital-based alternative birthing centers in the United States at that time.
