From a proud past emerges one of Auburn University's most dynamic colleges: a college with a "vision" whose academic programs take diverse paths of scientific inquiry to explore the relationship between people and their environments. The essence of human sciences is created when these applied disciplines interface, leading to one overarching mission to enhance human well-being and the quality of life worldwide.
In our effort to "change the world," we strive to find innovative ways to meet human needs in everyday life. Pursuing this commitment to make the world a better place, we consistently reshape our programs to address contemporary challenges and emerging issues. Blending our land-grant heritage with a rapidly changing information age, the College is at the forefront of innovative research, corporate/government/university partnerships, and outreach programs that offer science-based solutions to address society's most pressing life issues.
Benefits from such partnerships are also experienced closer to home. The Food Analysis and Testing Center operated by the Department of Nutrition and Food Science assists the food industry in the state and region by providing microbiological testing of food products and onsite food safety training for key industry, government, and educational organizations. Ensuring a safe food supply for Alabama and beyond is yet one more valuable contribution to "science for a quality life."
Outstanding faculty scholars provide intellectually stimulating instruction for undergraduate and graduate students and serve as a support system to maximize students' personal and professional growth. Rigorous academic curricula bridge the arts and sciences, combine theory and application, and integrate global understanding with technical competence. Indeed, it is this global strategy focused on producing socially responsible graduates who manifest progressive worldviews that enables the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University to set the quality standards by which competing programs are measured.
