The College of Human Sciences offers several international program options uniquely focused on different aspects of the hospitality and travel industry. The variety of options extend to Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Study abroad programs follow the traditional semester abroad and also includes options for short-term programs ranging from two to six weeks. Backpack Europe




CHS Abroad in The Bahamas is a 3-credit, two-week short-term study abroad offered in the first minimester during the months of May and June. Students “island-hop” to 3 of the most beautiful and ecologically diverse islands in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas to experience diverse forms of tourism including mass, sustainable, eco, adventure, etc. while interacting with industry professionals through educational lectures and site tours.

Auburn Abroad in Europe is a 6-credit, six-week study abroad backpacking program offered during the months of May and June. This course provides students with opportunities to experience European tourism/hospitality first-hand, and to evaluate and experience emerging issues within the European tourism marketplace. Students plan the trip itinerary which takes them to at least 10 major European cities.

The Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy program is a semester-long program offered each Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters in the small town of Ariccia. Students earn 16 credits and an International Minor while immersing themselves in the art, architecture, history, language, philosophy, literature of Italy. The program offers weekly excursions to a variety of cities including, Rome, the neighboring towns of the Castelli Romani, Tivoli, Siena, Florence, Naples, and Milan.

South Africa


CHS Abroad in Jordan is a three week study abroad program that provides students with a culturally rich experience by traveling to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. For 6-credit hours, students learn firsthand about the cultural, political, social, and economic diversity of this country and the broader Middle East region, and experienced the history, customs and hospitality of its people. The CHS Abroad in Jordan remains the only study abroad option at Auburn that travels to a country in the Middle East region.

Auburn Abroad in South Africa is a nine to ten week semester study abroad experience offered in collaboration with The College of Human Sciences and Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Port Alfred, South Africa. For 12-credit hours, HRMT students can focus on Advanced Wine Studies, International Hotel and Restaurant Management, Event Management, Lodge Management or Strategic Hospitality Management. Courses are facilitated in a small group problem-based learning setting. Students will participate in community outreach projects designed to take advantage of the deep history and culture of the region.
