The Hospitality Management (HOSP) program provides a strong educational foundation and excellent career preparation for students interested in the premium service segment of the hospitality industry. The HOSP curriculum offers a variety of courses and unique experiential learning opportunities designed to equip our graduates to pursue successful management and/or entrepreneurial opportunities in the hotel/lodging, restaurant, events, country club, foodservice or beverage industries. As an added competitive advantage, students also graduate with a business minor and have the opportunity to participate in an international experience that will further distinguish HOSP graduates. The program prides itself with a near 100% placement rate as graduates are in demand in a variety of health-related, hospitality, and foods industry careers.


The program has earned a professional accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) for its educational quality and for upholding nationally recognized standards in the hospitality profession. In addition to ensuring a high quality educational experience through a process of continuous improvement, the ACPHA accreditation allows for a greater emphasis on hospitality management and business training while also providing core foundational knowledge in the field. Upon graduation, students will earn an ACPHA accredited Bachelor’s of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, a distinction held by just over 60 hospitality programs worldwide. The accreditation status was achieved in August, 2011.


As part of its ongoing commitment to excellence in the delivery of tertiary level hospitality management education, the HOSP at Auburn University requires all students to undertake 600 hours of work experience in the hospitality industry, prior to completing a 400 hour internship program as part of the Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management. The internship experience is a very valuable, important, and enjoyable part of the HOSP program. Apart from gaining insight into the industry and being able to relate theory to practice, the relationships developed during this time can be very beneficial influence in terms of long-term career opportunities. Participation in the program is required and is designed to offer students an opportunity to gain invaluable industry experience as well as add value to their final degree qualification and ultimately improve their employment potential in the hospitality marketplace. In order to be eligible to enrol in the course students must:

  • be enrolled in the College of Human Sciences with a declared HOSP major;
  • complete 400 Hours (during collegiate experience) work experience in the hospitality field;
  • have a minimum 2.2 GPA;
  • and complete HOSP 2910 with a grade of a “C” or higher

Satisfactory completion of the internship period will lead to the award of a certificate of recognition of performance endorsed by both the Program and employing organization. Additionally, satisfactory completion of the internship will earn the student four (4) credit hours towards their core hospitality curriculum.

HOSP undergraduates are required to complete a suite of five business classes totaling 15 credits leading toward a business minor from the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business. Upon completion of the business minor, students will have the requisite foundational knowledge of business administration as specified by AACSB International and will have the option to pursue graduate work in business.
