I am interested in family relationships and individual outcomes in more at-risk family contexts; therefore, I have been involved in research on low-resource families, post-divorce families and stepfamilies, military families, and families involved in physical child abuse. My current applied research is focused on the assessment of relationship and marriage education programs targeting a broad population of couples, adult singles, and youth.
I use an engaged action research approach that utilizes a collaborative network of community-based agencies for program implementation and data collection. Student involvement includes experiences with both outreach and research. Simultaneously I maintain a basic research agenda that currently centers primarily on stepfamily experiences, with an emphasis on cultural variations in stepfamily experiences.
