Summary
Teaching Summary
Dr. Duffey is passionate about linking the classroom to professional practice through real-world design projects through annual firm-studio partnerships. Primarily teaching in residential and hospitality design, Dr. Duffey has partnered with global offices such as, Meyer Davis, TSB Architecture, Champalimaud and Marriott International, in order to expose students to wide range of project types in various locations across the world. Students are exposed to project site visits, architecture and design firm office visits, and guest speakers across the disciplines of residential and hospitality design. Additionally, her courses focus on taking projects from Pre-Design to Design Development with an emphasis in concept development through a story telling narrative approach. She has also taught in the areas of technical drawing and computer aided design, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and history, theory and criticism of interior design. Her efforts in teaching have been recognized in at the university, state and national level through various organizations including: Auburn University, ASID Alabama Chapter, and Design Intelligence.

Research Summary
Dr. Duffey scholarly interests are in users’ perceptions of contemporary public space. This work has led to interests in various types of public spaces both indoor and outdoor; examining how public spaces have evolved and serve society as new types of technologies emerge. A few selected publications below showcase the work in various venues and national conferences. Creative scholarship endeavors have centered on interventions in public space – a public space seat with charging capabilities – and other digital visualization tools for interior design practice that examine the design of residential homes and connection to place.
